When you see someone what do you look for to judge them? Their occupation, their clothes, what kind of car they are driving, or what about the way they speak? These things all can be a factor someone’s mind on what specific social class they belong to. There are a handful of social classes that someone can be apart of but the question is what does it mean to be in a social class? The main goal is to understand what each social class is and what does it mean to be in one. The United State's whole idea revolves around these social classes and can confuse a person on what it means to be in the lower, middle, and higher class. People go off of what they see and that’s why these classes shouldn’t be so important and the thing that should matter the most is what one is doing and how its being done, there shouldn’t be labels. Social classes goes against the idea of democracy.

"Where justice is denied, where poverty is enforced, where ignorance prevails, and where any one class is made to feel that society is an organized conspiracy to oppress, rob and degrade them, neither persons nor property will be safe." |
The Lower Class
The poverty line is what calls all these different classes to be different. To be considered in the lower class you have to at or below the poverty line. The lower class is what you would be under if you aren’t working or not working for a lot, hardly getting by. To be considered in the lower class its been said that you don’t have the best education or equip skills. On the Dave Manuel website to be in the lower class means, “The "lower class" is thought to have the lowest standing in society, mainly due to their lack of income. People in the lower class are not able to afford nice cars, nice homes or vacations. “ (DaveManuel) The funny thing is that not everyone who has a nice car or nice clothes aren’t in a higher class than lower and are just scrounging a few dollars just to get by at a measly job or not working at all. The Christian Science Monitor has an article that involves all you have to know about the lower class. “The share of those who identify themselves as "lower class" – at 8.4 percent – now stands at its highest level in four decades, according to separate data released this week from the long-running General Social Survey (GSS). Just as surprising, the share of college graduates who describe themselves as lower class has jumped from 2.6 percent in 2002 to 5.8 percent in 2012.” (TCSM) Those these numbers seem low this was back a few years and the number gets even larger each year because of all the situations with the economy.

The Middle Class
This class, the one that is known as the “sandwich class”. This group actually has two groups in one, the lower middle class and the upper middle class. The lower middle class consist of less education, less skills, lower income, and jobs such as “managers, small business owners, teachers, and secretaries.” (CliffNotes) The upper middle class holds the people who “ is often made up of highly educated business and professional people with high incomes, such as doctors, lawyers, stockbrokers, and CEOs.”(CliffNotes) The middle class is seemed to be more of an “average” to people. “ About as many Americans identify themselves as "lower or lower-middle class (40%) as say they are in the middle class (44%)” according to a recent Pew Research Center/USA TODAY survey. (PRC) The new rumor is that the middle class is the new poor because of the numbers dropping and the economy is getting worst.
The Upper Class
Who wouldn’t want to be places under the upper class ranking, at the tip of the top. Just in the United States “only 1 to 3 percent of the United States population” (CliffsNotes) That isn’t that many if you think about it. Around the nation the upper class holds just over twenty-five percent, which doesn’t seem a lot either. These people make more money to know what to do with it but how do we know who's really who they say they are? Unless there are tax copies and bank statements there is no really knowing who is in the upper class and who is in the lower.
Just because someone has a nice car doesn’t mean they are considered in the upper class or even middle. And just because someone isn’t dressed in name brand clothes and isn’t wearing high priced shoes doesn’t mean the in the lower class. There is no telling which person is in which class and thats what is hurting the equality segment around the world. The way the world is set up is that you have to set standards and if you don’t hit what those standards are than your word doesn’t matter, you aren’t worthy, you don’t matter and thats what is killing our world. With these labels comes options and limits. There shouldn’t be certain things that are able to happen which each class. Every class should be treated the same, with equality. That’s what we want, equality and we can’t have them if we have to worry about if we are considered to be in the lower class, the sandwich, or the upper. In order to be more true to out democratic views then we need to element what is blocking us from coming together as a whole.
