IN OUR SOCIETY HOW MUCH IS BEGGING A FORM OF DECEPTION?

The Problem
A major problem in our society is that there is too much deception. All around the nation they’re people begging for money sitting out front of gas stations for coins. Walking around high priced storefronts looking for a couple bucks. There are even people who beg by playing an instrument or by singing a song. Being an open-hearted person you give that person a extra dollar, or even those loose nickels and dimes in your pocket. At the end of the day you feel good about yourself helping someone out. One dollar can go a long way, but how far can it really go? Have you ever seen a person with a sign that says “injured vet” or how about “Sing for a dollar”?

Picture

How many of those people do you really think need the money rather than want it. Some people out there truly will do anything for a cup of hot coffee and others would beg for a bottle of cheap vodka from the Wine And Spirits. In the U.S., more than 3.5 million people experience homelessness each year. While economic factors are the main causes of homelessness, long-term issues like mental illness, drug addiction, and alcoholism can exacerbate situations of poverty and put people at greater risk of homelessness.(NSCAH&H) Drug and alcohol addiction affect about 20% of the homeless population.(NSCAH&H) Though that doesn’t seem like a large percent, you never know who is who. So how do you know where you giving is going to go. For the people how deceive those who give actually hurt the ones who need it the most. The people who are trying to care can’t anymore because they are too scared to anymore.

Who Is Who?
When you see “hurt vet” on a sign do you question if they are really who they say they are? Actually 23% of homeless population are veterans but who the other 77% are who they really say they are? We actually don’t know which of the 23% people are actually homeless, the others who are also homeless and need the money, and the other people who just beg because it is “easy money”.(NCFTH) Overwhelmingly to begging can make between $600 to $1,500 a month.(TheAtlantic) That is way that some people make even working two or three jobs. If they know they can get the money for putting on a good act then why wouldn’t they try their luck and skill, if you have a problem you will do anything.

Drugs Or Dreams
So when do we know when to give someone money or not? Actually there is no real way to tell if a person is really needy or not or really use that money for food and some type of advancement rather than having to worry about that money is going to go towards drugs or a drink. From many people it was said that frequently they seen beggars duck into alleys to buy drugs immediately after getting a couple of bucks. They also know of beggars who aren't homeless, like myself. And it is ridiculous with fact that there was actually a WikiHow showing step-by-step how to act as if are were a real homeless person and how to beg “correctly” to get the most money. The way people act actually hurts others. Because they lie and the giving people see what some of the “beggars” are doing with the money they don’t know who to give it to so a lot of the times they don’t give anything at all. With the way some people treat the good kind hearted people show that the population in the world is not all there in their heads. Some will do anything for a quick buck and even worse a quick high.

All Around The World
Around the world, people aren’t suppose to give other beggars anytime of money of treats because it shows an “easy way out of things”. People beg and see how easy it is to get a “treat” they won’t work any harder to get what they can from easy living. Have you ever wondered about child beggars?  Roughly 60,000 children disappear each year, according to official statistics.(HuffingtonPost) Many of these children are kidnapped and forced to work as beggars for organized, mafia-like criminal groups, and even worst conditions. According to one U.S. State Department report, a man in Shenzhen, China, can earn as much as $40,000 per year by forcing enslaved children to beg. Easy money is being made by having even others beg for you.(HuffingtonPost) So how do you know where your money really ends up? So when we, well-intentioned tourists, give money directly to child beggars, there’s a decent chance we’re actually lining the pockets of criminals who will turn around and use that money to abduct, enslave, rape, torture, and maim even more kids.

"The trouble with lying and deceiving is that their efficiency depends entirely upon a clear notion of the truth that the liar and deceiver wishes to hide."
Hannah Arendt

Domestic Values
The way it can be valued is right equal rights. People claim its about their skin color. It is about the way they look and how they speak. Equality can have a lot to do with this and it is something to think about. Because they don’t speak english they can’t get a job. Because they can’t get a job they don’t have any money. Because they don’t have any money they need to go out and beg. This happens with all colors. According to the Center for Responsible Lending, 11 percent of all black homeowners lost their homes during the financial crisis. (CityLimits) This is happening because of the different standards that are given for colored people and equal rights are one of these problems. People are losing their homes because of these problems and to make a quick buck they go out and beg instead of waiting for a paycheck working at a real job.

Problem Solved
So for the people who want to beg for money deceiving one another think about it you’re actually hurting yourselves. Think about it. If so many people catch the hang of what is being done, it won’t happen anymore and you’re not only going to suffer but so are the people who actually need that money for something important like feeding their mouths or their children. For the people who are giving, start really thinking about where your money is going to end up and who is really going to appreciate it. Donate to local shelters and family homes so you really know your money is going to good use!
